Overview
With nearly 40 top-15 ranked competitors and several more hangin on the fringe, the Bradshaw is without question the hottest event in the Evil Empire this weekend...
No one has been able to slow down our top Division II program, Tioga, and with all of their hammers expected to be in the field, the smart money suggests that this trend will continue!!!
Individually, there is seemingly two or more polled student-athletes in every weight class, which will give the finals a very "Albany in late-February" feeling...However, if "Saturday Night Live" explosion is what you are seeking, then you can find it at 110, 126, 152, 160, and especially 285!
These brackets are so loaded with returning and/or soon-to-be NYSPHSAA medalists that the semifinals will rival the title contests at many other tournaments across the state...
While it is impossible to single out any one particular weight class; if pressed to do so, 160 strikes us as the premier bracket....With three of the top-4 on the large school charts entered, we might be starring at a preview of the DI state title bout at best and definitive day #2 battles at a minimum...Nick Sanko (Pittsford) and Brady Unger (Fairport) have combined for three state-level medals, while Michael Schaefer (Lancaster) is in the midst of a career year and will be determined to avenge an early-season loss to Sanko...
Sitting in the #3 and #5 spots of the DII polls, 2x NYS placer, Caden Bellis (Tioga) and 2020 S5 silver medalist, Caleb Sweet (South Seneca) is 100% a bout we could see in a late-round melee under the roof of Times Union Center...Both have lost just once apiece in 2021-2022, so it need not be said that "defeat" is a dirty word in their personal dictionaries....Chasing them will be two studs who have yet to be conquered thus far---DI #8 Cosmo Lucania (Webster Schroeder) & DII #14 Jack Lamson (PB/JE/US/CM)
Anchored by SIX ranked entries, on paper, 285 is the deepest of the 13 brackets...Victor's Ty Rader, who has been a tournament-winning animal during his junior campaign, will attempt to remain unblemished and continue his climb to the top. Already this year, he has wins at the Byron Bergen, Batavia Christmas, and Monroe County events...In the finals of the latter, he topped Bobby Foltz (Pittsford), 3-2...A rematch in the semis and/or finals will be epic!...2020 S4 runner-up, Gannon Johnston (Horseheads), suffered his lone loss to DI #1 Charles Tibbitts (New Hartford) in the finals of the Windsor, but has been a wrecking ball otherwise (17 wins, 14 falls)...Nathan Zimmerman (Webster Schroeder)/Matt Jansen (Midlakes) are perfect this season...3 (DII) Mason Peterson (Marcus Whitman-Penn Yan) is the highest rated among the group, as he sits at DII #3 with a solid 14-1 record!

Overview:
Fresh off of the Section VI Dual Meet Championships (won by Lancaster & Newfane), several of the top teams in Buffalo, as well as a few elite guests from Rochester, will clash as we take our first steps towards the impending postseason...
Highlighting our card will be potential rematch of the 2021 Section VI DI title bout between fellow 110-pound ranked rivals, James Leuer (Starpoint) and Ken Schmitz (Hamburg)...Despite losing (6-4 decision) the title bout a season ago, Leuer later went on to place 5th at the Journeymen NYS Tournament, while his counterpart failed to step on the podium...They met earlier this year in the finals of the Linda Knuutila Memorial, with Leuer getting the better of round #2 (9-4 decision)...Hence, the rubber match ought to be worth the price of admission!
Also not to be missed is the 172-pound bout that very easily could manifest as glimpse into the eventual DI state finals as Brian Bielec (Grand Island) & Jake Scherbyn (Spencerport) are both securely in the top-4 of the polls, would love to use this head-to-head to launch themselves to the top of the charts...Both J-Men State 8ths last season, Bielec has yet to taste defeat this seasons (wins at the Phoenix Round Robin and the Knuutila Memorial), while Scherbyn has been bested just once (7-4 in the Monroe County finals by #3 Elijah Diakomihalis; Hilton)!
126 is sure to be a meat-grinder as we could feasibly see any one of the four ranked entries going home with gold!!!!...Cal Russo (Spencerport) and Jake Daly (Brockport), the #9 and #10 men in the DI polls wrestled in late-December with the latter winning a 2-1 decision in UTB...#11 Amarfio Reynolds (Niagara Falls), who like Russo, is a respective defending sectional titlist, lost his only match in the finals of the Knuutila Memorial, but bounced back the following weekend to win at Akron...The young phenom (2021 Super 32 MS medalist/2021 S6 runner-up), Griff Laplante (Starpoint), lost a 4-2 decision to Reynolds the first week of the season...

Overview:
If not for the fact that top-ranked DI school, Minisink Valley, elected to send split squads to various events, this tournament ALMOST had everything you could want in a potential gauge of whom is going to claim the large school tournament team title next month...
Still, despite only bringing five competitors with them, the now five-time (picked up #5 earlier in the week) Section IX Dual Meet Champion Warriors still are well positioned to lead all teams in gold medal winners at this event!
Boasting a murderer's row from 152 to 215 comprised of nothing but top-6 polled personnel, the Green & White juggernaut could very well sweep through the day without ever having to participate in a wrestleback bout...
At 152 pounds, 2021 Journeymen State 5th, Eric Tigue, has two individuals ranked higher than him, but can absolutely get it done!....His aforementioned two "chief" challengers will be 2021 J-Men State 6th, Noah Bernstein (Edgemont) and Connor Gregory (Ballston Spa)...Tigue lost a 3-2 decision to Gregory earlier in the year; so if they were to meet again, expect another down-to-wire conclusion...
At 172 pounds, "Kid Dee", Mikey Altomer (2x NYS medalist/2021 J-men runner-up; 2021 USAW Jr GR National runner-up) is the man to beat at the weight, but should anticipate a push from either or both of Ray Hutton (LaSalle) and Ryan Buthfer (Burnt Hills)!...Hutton (4th in S2 in 2020) has lost just once this season and is #3 in the DII polls at the moment...Buthfer (2020 S2 5th) has not lost to an Empire State opponent this season, both each of his two blemishes coming at the hands of an opponent from Vermont!
Someone's "0" is going to need to go at 189 pounds as returning J-Men State 8th, Andrew Filip, will square off with almost unbeaten, Dillon Blanchard (Guilderland), seems well on his way to being a first-time S2 medalist, as well as a emerging favorite to win the crown!...Blanchard has already won gold at the Wrangle In the Plains and the Queensbury Tournament...In one of his few tourney appearances, #2 ranked Filip traveled to NJ and went untested!
Saving the best for last, if our polls hold true, then this weekend is going to bear witness to round 1 of a series that many pundits believe will reach its climax in the DI State finals....Ranked 1st and 2nd respectively, 2x NYS medalist (runner-up in 2021), Ethan Gallo, and 2020 Super 32 All-American/2020 S2 titlist, Ryan Stein (Shaker) both carry immaculate records onto the mats....2020 S2 bronze medalist, Darrien Insogna (Ballston Spa), should not be overlooked; the Scotties 11th grader is the only one to extend Stein the full six minutes before dropping a 6-4 decision in the Saratoga finals...
In non-MV related news, the potential showdown between undefeated, returning state medalists at 138 also has us pumped!!...Kieran Cullen (Greenville) was 8th at Journeymen last season and thus far has wins in 2021/2022 at the Bethlehem Round-Robin and Mat Mania. Only a sophomore and already #2 in his weight class, if he succeeds this weekend, then we might be seeing the birth of an emerging legend....In the other corner is the proven veteran, Jashon Holmes (Shenendehowa). 5th at last year's Journeymen State tournament, the defending S2 titlist is as battle-tested as they come and will try to a dub this weekend to keep him firmly on track for state gold!...And don't forget that for one of the these two to reach the finals, they are going to first need to get through another defending sectional champ, Tyler Rossini (Burnt Hills)!
