Olivet Wrestling Clash: #9Olivet vs #25Alma, #1Lowell vs #2Richmond
1/17/2014
OLIVET, Mich. – Tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet, Mich., four ranked teams will take the mat to battle for interstate dominance. These four teams, that all hail from the “Mitten”, will throw down in intense fashion. Both the college teams are ranked in the top 25 in the nation and the high school squads are No. 1 and No. 2 in their respective divisions. Collectively the teams have combined for 22 Top 10 ranked wrestlers in their divisions. This will be an awesome showcase of high school and collegiate wrestling.
“When our alumnus Dustin Cichocki, ninth grade principal and volunteer assistant at Lowell, and Brandon Day, Head Coach for Richmond, presented this idea I was ecstatic,” said Olivet Head Coach Brandon Brissette. “This event brings together the excitement of fan bases for two storied programs like Lowell and Richmond and the rivalry between the only two NCAA Division III programs in the state. That’s something any wrestling fan will want to come and see.”
There are many connections between the teams tonight: including four coaches who have been a part of at least two of the programs, five current current wrestlers on the college squads, and a whole lot of shared respect and competiveness.
“I have huge respect and admiration for all the programs here tonight. I have worked with, learned from, and spent quality time with all of them, and the one thing I know about these programs… we demand success and cultivate life champion,” said Brissette. “That is what being an Olivet Wrestling Comet is all about, and of course, expecting to win.”
The middle school and junior varsity programs for the high schools will start wrestling at 5 p.m., varsity high school action at 5:30 p.m., and the college varsity event will kick off at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults and free to all students (college, high school, middle school and younger). Please bring a valid school ID card.
