The separation between the 1st and 8th seed is simple. A flip of a coin and a few seconds of extra riding time.
These competitors know each other well. Very well to be exact.
There has been grumblings around the country about #1 ranked Gadson being seeded #6, but he does have two losses to the Schiller, who is the #4 seed.
Schiller has loses to Gadson (6-4), Heflin (twice), and McIntosh.
McIntosh has losses to Cox and Heflin.
Cox has losses to Wellington and Gadsen.
Rutt has losses to Gadsen, Heflin, Cox, and Perry.
Wellington has losses to Cox, Bonaccorsi, and Palik.
Perry's lone loss is to Rutt.
Boley won the Midlands title and has taken some odd losses as well.
And scratch your head on this one. Heflin's lone loss is to McCall.
We're calling for Schiller over Gadson in the quarters, for the mere fact that Schiller owns two wins this season over Gadson. Heflin over Schiller because Heflin has beaten Schiller twice as well.
Look for a McIntosh/Cox semi-final match-up, but if the Penn State train gets rolling in the semi's, momentum could play a huge role in this semi match.
Expect 'upsets', if you can call any of the seeds going down an upset.
Heflin, who the wrestling world heavily questioned his move up two weight classes, has only one sudden victory loss in a dual to Wisconsin. He has won 11 matches by 2 or less points. Heflin has proven throughout his collegiate career that he knows how to win the close matches and more so in sudden victory.
For anyone to claim Gadson got robbed of the #1 seed apparently have not broken down the numbers. These seeds are justified and well thought out.
As we love to say, this is why we wrestle the matches.
OWN 197 Prediction: Nick Heflin, Ohio State
Other Brackets: 125 / 133 / 141 / 149 /157 /165 / 174 / 184 / 285
