A contingent of Michigan preps and youths travelled to Iowa last weekend for the USAW Folkstyle Nationals with 17 wrestlers earning All-American honors, including 4 National Championsips.
Walled Lake Freshman State Champ Ben Freeman won the Cadet 113lb National Title. Freeman scored a 3-1 win over Missouri State Runner-Up Alec Hagan in the finals after rattling off 5 consecutive bonus point victories to to make the championship match.
Sophomore Kanen Storr, a 2x State Finalist and GFC Champ, finished 3rd at 120lbs in the Cadet division. Storr scored bonus point wins over Iowa and Arizona State Finalists to make the semifinals where he lost 11-0 to Oklahoma State Champ and Fargo Double Champ Daton Fix. 2 consolation wins over State Runner-Ups from Iowa and Missouri gave Storr a 3rd place finish and strong showing.
Dresden Simon was the only other Cadet All-American, finishing 7th at 120lbs. Meanwhile, Daniel Shear, Trevor Giallambardo, and Dalton Roberts all earned All-American honors at the Junior Level.
At the youth level, Team Donahoe was on display with Caden Horwath, Joshua Barr, and Alex Facundo winning National Titles. Team Donahoe crowned 8 total All-Americans at the youth level and won the Team Title for the Intermediate Age Division with 36 points. The Runner-Up team scored 14 points.
