Los Angeles, California – Only months away from having wrestled in the FILA Cadet World Championships in Snina, Slovakia, Gabrielle Garcia is set to return to the Freakshow and make history by becoming the first women wrestler to win three Freakshow titles.
Garcia dominated in the early rounds of the competition at 52 kg/114.5 pounds in Slovakia, winning two matches to advance to the semi-final round against Russia’s Alina Kazymova. Both wrestled tough the entire match, but in the end Garcia fell just short of advancing to the gold medal match, losing 4-2 to the tough Russian and placed 5th in the tournament. It was really disappointing for Garcia whom had aspirations of bringing back a gold medal to California.
A native of Placentia, California, Garcia is a junior at Valencia High School in Southern California and is the pound-for-pound No. 1 female wrestler in the nation.
Last year she was inducted into the Freakshow Hall of Fame, joining great scholastic wrestlers like Mark Hall, Isaiah Martinez, Derrick Jones, Nikko Villareal, and Zahid and Anthony Valencia. She is the first and only female so far in the Hall of Fame.
Besides wrestling for Valencia High School, she wrestles for the North Orange County Piranha Wrestling Club and the Titan Mercury Wrestling Club.
On her way to winning her Freakshow title last season, Garcia met Two-time Hawaii state champion and Fargo All-American, Harmony Pacheco in the finals of the 124 pound weight class. Garcia had three pins prior to her final match. None of her previous matches passed the first round. In the finals, Garcia defeated Pacheco 2-0 to make the final match the closest ever in the two years she has been wrestling in the event. Her other close match was in 2012 when she defeated Arian Carpio 7-2 in the finals. Carpio, who hails from the state of Washington, was a three-time Freaskhow finalist and two-time champion during the three times she wrestled in the tournament.
Garcia is a veteran on the wrestling mat who has been battle tested by the best in the nation and on the international level. Be certain that she will be ready for anyone to challenge her for the Freakshow title. Will anyone step up to the plate and challenge Gabrielle? I guess we will have to find out come November in Las Vegas, Nevada.
