16U Boys Best Bets

  1. Brody Compau (Rockford), 113lbs – Ranked top-20 in the country, Compau has done just about everything imaginable in the past year. He went undefeated as a Freshman, winning a D1 state title. He also was an All American in both styles last year in Fargo, and he is a Pan Am champ. Not only is Compau a best bet to place this year, but we love his odds to bring home a Fargo stop sign.
  2. Dylan Phillips (Laingsburg), 120lbs – Phillips is one of the returning Fargo All Americans, taking 8th in Greco last year. He was a D3 state champ as a Freshman this past season, and we expect him to have a big tournament in both styles this year, especially after going undefeated in freestyle at duals.
  3. Dom Sindone (Dundee), 94lbs – Sindone was a state runner up this past year, losing to the aforementioned Phillips in the finals. Sindone is another returning Fargo All American, taking 8th in freestyle last summer.
  4. Gavin Boller (Detroit Catholic Central), 100lbs – Boller as a state placer at 106lbs this past season in D1, and he has had an impressive calendar year in the Freestyle/Greco circuit. Boller was a Greco All American last year in Fargo, and he placed 6th at Central Regionals in Freestyle. Now at the top end of the age group in Fargo, we expect him to do well in both styles.
  5. Michael Carter (Frankenmuth), 285lbs– Carter was a state placer as a Freshman at heavyweight, which is an impressive feat. He followed up a spectacular high school season by winning Central Regionals and going 8-0 in Greco in duals and 6-2 in freestyle.
  6. Cael Tyler (Roscommon), 175lbs – Tyler had an outstanding Freshman year, holding his own in the upperweights. He was a state runner up, and he followed that up by winning Central Regionals in FS. He also went 6-2 in freestyle at 16U duals.
  7. Grayson VanValkenburg (Grandville), 106lbs – VanValkenburg was a state finalist at one of the deepest weights in D1 this past year. He also has proven himself on the freestyle scene already, taking 6th in a very tough field in Vegas.
  8. Tyler Sage (Linden), 120lbs – Sage was dominant all year up until the postseason, where he suffered a season ending injury. He has been battling back the last few months, and we expect to see him in peak form again in Fargo. He took 3rd at Central Regionals to qualify the spot.
  9. Jaxon Boucher (Middle School), 120lbs – Boucher’s best results so far this year have come in Greco, taking 8th in Vegas. However, Boucher is a name to watch in both styles. He placed at Central Regionals in freestyle to qualify his Fargo spot, and we like his odds to make a run in both styles.
  10. Kingston Stricker (Middle School) – Stricker is extremely tough, especially in Greco. He took 5th at Central Regionals to qualify for Fargo, and he also finished on the podium in Vegas, taking 8th.
