The NCAA released its first set of RPI rankings this week. RPI is one of several tools the NCAA uses when evaluating at-large selections for the NCAA tournament, and it also factors into the overall seeding conversation.
RPI is based on three components: a wrestler’s winning percentage, their opponents’ winning percentage (strength of schedule), and their opponents’ opponents’ winning percentage (their opponents’ strength of schedule). Only Division I matches at the wrestler’s designated weight class count toward RPI, and a wrestler must have at least 15 matches to be included.
Because of that minimum-match requirement, you’ll notice a few notable names missing from the initial rankings. Josh Barr and Braeden Davis, for example, haven’t hit 15 matches yet, so they’re not eligible to appear in the RPI list at this time.
