Super 32 Recap & Updated Records

The toughest Folkstyle tournament in the country went down over the weekend in Greensboro, North Carolina, and Michigan is bringing back 6 All Americans between the boys and girls divisions.

Logan Tollison led the way this year, finishing 5th at 285lbs. He picked up a pin and a major to reach the quarterfinals, where he would drop a tight match to nationally ranked Leisgang (Wisconsin). The loss dropped him to the blood round, where he picked up a decisive 7-0 win over Peters (Pennsylvania). The Comet would split his next two matches to put him in the 5th place match where he won by medical forfeit over Leisgang in what would have been a fantastic rematch of the quarterfinals.

Grayson Fuchs (Detroit CC) was the other placer on the boy’s side. Entering the tournament seeded 7th, Fuchs earned two techs and two decisions to reach the quarterfinals. In the QF, he ran into eventual runner-up and top-10 nationally ranked Clinton Shepherd (Indiana). Shepherd scored the lone takedown of the match and was able to hold off Fuchs late, dropping Fuchs to the blood round. Fuchs was dominant in the blood round, beating a really tough Jelle (Minnesota) 7-2 in the blood round to secure All American honors. Fuchs would then drop his next two matches, both tight decisions, to finish 8th.

Girls Recap

There were three finalists on the girl’s side, including Super 32 champ Halle Spears (Midland HS) at 200lbs. Spears picked up two pins and an injury default en route to the finals, and she pinned Hattala (PA) in just 44 seconds in the finals.

Cheyenne Frank (Oxford HS) and Kaili Manuel (Romeo HS) took 2nd at 118lbs and 160lbs, respectively. Frank entered as the 2-seed, picking up techs and pins in her first four matches before beating Carder (Ohio) 8-4 in the semis. She would then drop a tough 11-7 decision to Sharp (New Jersey) in the finals.

Kaili Manuel was looking for a three-peat in Greensboro, but she fell just short, dropping a 5-4 decision to Poalillo (New Jersey) in the finals. Manuel had two techs and a pin before beating Araujo (North Dakota) 8-2 in the semis.

Lillee Denson (St. Clair Shores HS) rounded out our placers with a 3rd place effort at 100lbs. Denson was dominant on her way to the semis where she dropped a match to eventual runner-up Manno (New Jersey). Denson would then win her next two, including an 8-7 decision over Dean (Colorado) in the 3rd place match.
