Hudson’s Nick Sorrow led the way on Day 2, winning a U20 Greco national championship. Entering as the 3-seed, Sorrow teched the 2-seed Schwanz to reach the finals. In the best two-of-three finals, Sorrow dropped a controversial first match, giving up a questionable 4-point move with just a few seconds left. From there, Sorrow cruised, beating Anthony Delgado 13-3 and 7-2 in the next two matches to take home the gold.
On the Senior Greco side, Fowlerville grad Dalton Roberts is into the best 2-of-3 finals today against former Illinois All American Zane Richards. Michigan State grad Peyton Omani is into the finals at 67kg, while we have a handful of Northern Michigan RTC medal winners.
Amryn Nutter and Aidan Squier, both competing for Northern Michigan, are also bringing home a golds at U20 67kg and 87kg, respectively.
We’ve also got four in the medal matches on the Senior women freestyle side, led by Kendra Ryan and Katie Lange, who are both wrestling for 3rd today.
Medal matches for our 5 high school girls were yesterday. Nieuwenhuis won at 105lbs to take 3rd, while Castillo won her medal match to take 7th at the same weight. Emma Baker won by fall in her final match to take 5th at 115lbs. and Alexis Lazar won a 6-4 decision to take home 3rd at 140lbs. Kanata Richardson, our lone finalist in HS girls freestyle, is coming home a national runner-up.
Lastly, U15 boys freestyle kicked off yesterday, with the second half of that tournament going on today. Grayson VanValkenburg (Grandville) is still alive at 48kg, needing just two more wins to reach the podium.
