Dalton Roberts was Michigan’s biggest highlight in Vegas yesterday, winning another World Team Trials at 60kg. He will represent the US in Bahrain later this year at the world championships. The Fowlerville grad cruised to the finals with three techs. He would then see Illinois All American Zane Richards in the best two-of-three finals to make the world team. Roberts only needed 2 matches to put Richards away, winning 7-1 and 4-3.

Group B of Senior Greco kicked off yesterday as well, with Adam Coon winning three straight matches to reach another World Team Trials finals. He will see a very familiar opponent in Cohlton Schultz, an All American from Arizona State. That best two-of-three finals will happen today. Payton Jacobson is another Michigan Grappler in the World Team Trials finals. Training at the Northern Michigan RTC and representing NYAC, Jacobson was a 2024 Olympian. He will see Beka Melelashvili in the finals.

On the Senior Women side, medal matches were yesterday. Alissa Caltagirone finished her tournament on a strong note, winning her 5th place match over Liv Wieber by criteria (6-6). Kendra Ryan and Katie Lange both dropped their medal matches to finish 4th, while Aspen Blasko and Lydia Krauss both took home 8th.

Grandville’s Grayson VanValkenburg was the lone placewinner for the Mitten State in U15 Freestyle, picking up a 6th place finish at 48kg. Dropping a match early, VanValkenburg battled on the backside, winning four straight matches to reach the 5th place match.

Michigan had 7 reach the podium in Senior Mens Freestyle, all of them still looking to climb the back side. Alec Pantaleo, Cam Amine, and Josh Barr all dropped wars in the semis. Pantaleo lost to NCAA champ Ridge Lovett. After closing the gap to 7-6 in the second period, Lovett locked up a leg lace to end the match 17-6. Cam Amine battled with world silver medalist James Green and could not convert a late takedown, dropping the match 2-1. Josh Barr was down 2-0 in the first period when he appeared to injure his knee while looking for a takedown. He didn’t look the same after that, dropping his semis match to NCAA champ Macchiavello.

Lastly, we had three All Americans in U17 Greco. Gavin Boller of Detroit Catholic Central battled to a 5th place finish at 45kg, while Lakewood’s Dakota Harmer is bringing home a 4th place finish at 48kg. Jericoh Powe (Saline) put together a solid tournament at 110kg to earn 8th place.
