The 2025-26 D1 college season is officially underway! Many of our Michigan D2, D3, and NAIA schools are already competing, beginning with last weekend’s Adrian Invite, and now our three D1 schools are entering their competition season this weekend.
The annual Michigan State Open is going down today in East Lansing, with the starters from MSU and CMU competing against the likes of Northern Illinois, Edinboro, Kent State, amongst others. Michigan also brought a handful of guys, led by NCAA qualifier Sergio Lemley. The Michigan starting lineup, however, is competing in a home dual tomorrow against VMI.
Stay tuned for an MSU Open recap, and head to FloWrestling.com to find the brackets!
Michigan vs VMI Preview
Michigan opens the season ranked 8th in the country by Intermat, led by a handful of All Americans. Michigan was the beneficiary of All American transfers Lachlan McNeil (UNC) at 149lbs and Taye Ghadiali (Campbell) at 285lbs. With Lemley competing at the MSU Open, it is looking like Ragusin will make the move up to 141lbs, allowing Lemley to take his redshirt. 133lbs would then become a question mark. We could see a big recruit in true freshman Eren Sement make his debut at 133lbs tomorrow.
The other big question is who will get the nod at 157lbs and 165lbs. We think we will see freshman Cam Catrabone in the starting slot at 157lbs with NCAA qualifier Dylan Gilcher moving all the way up to 165lbs. We project that for now, although this lineup could definitely change with Michigan’s flexibility.
VMI kicked off their season with a Friday evening 59-0 dual win over Emory & Henry. The dual will be at 2pm on Sunday at Cliff Keen Arena.
