Class 5A Region Duals Preview

IT’S REGION/AREA DUALS WEEK!!!!!!!

CLASS 5A REGION 1 DUALS PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS

Region 1: Hosted by Ware Co
Coffee, Greenbrier, Jenkins, Statesboro, Ware Co

Coffee, Greenbrier, and Ware Co are all high quality teams that have a legitimate shot at advancing all the way to the Elite 8, depending on the bracket draws, that leaves Jenkins and Statesboro to battle it out for the 4th spot from the Region. Coffee finished well ahead of Ware Co at the Yellow Jacket dual, Greenbrier is loaded, but I haven’t seen many dual results for them this season.

Predictions:

4. Statesboro
5. Jenkins

CLASS 5A REGION 2 DUALS PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS

Region 2: Hosted by Ola
Dutchtown, Eagle’s Landing, Jones Co, Locust Grove, Ola, Union Grove, Warner Robins

Jones Co, Locust Grove, and Ola should hold down the top 3 spots in some order in this Region. Based on results from Duals and individual tournaments, Ola currently seems to be ahead of the other two, but that match between Jones Co and Locust Grove should be a great semifinal. The real battle in this Region may be between Eagles Landing and Union Grove for that 4th and final spot in the State Duals.

CLASS 5A REGION 3 DUALS PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS

Region 3: Hosted by McIntosh
Drew, Harris Co, McIntosh, Northgate, Northside Columbus

Harris Co and McIntosh are the teams to beat here in Region 3, both appear to be stronger traditional teams, but they have plenty of talent throughout the lineup to have some success in duals as well. Northside, Columbus has seen some success in duals this year, and they should slide in at the 3rd spot in the Region, leaving Drew and Northgate to battle it out for the final playoff spot.

CLASS 5A REGION 4 DUALS PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS

Region 4: Hosted by Chamblee
Arabia Mountain, Chamblee, Decatur, Lithonia, ML King, Tucker

There aren’t many results posted for any of these teams, but based on roster sizes and the plethora of inconsistent weighins, predicting anything is an effort in futility.

3. Lithonia
4. Tucker
5. ML King

CLASS 5A REGION 5 DUALS PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS

Region 5: Hosted by Villa Rica
Banneker, Chapel Hill, Creekside, Jackson ATL, Lithia Springs, Midtown, Tri Cities, Villa Rica

Creekside, Midtown, and Tri-Cities don’t have enough wrestlers in the system to form a lineup, while Banneker and Jackson both have fairly small rosters. Chapel Hill and Lithia Springs are better than they have been in a long time, but Villa Rica should dominate this Region.

4. Jackson, ATL
5. Banneker

CLASS 5A REGION 6 DUALS PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS

Region 6: Hosted by Greater Atlanta Christian
Cambridge, Centennial, Chattahoochee, Greater Atlanta Christian, Kell, North Springs, Northview

Cambridge will dominate this Region, and will more than likely square off with Chattahoochee in the Finals. GAC and Northview don’t have large enough rosters to be much of a factor in duals. Look for Kell, Centennial, and North Springs to battle it out for the final 2 spots in the State Duals.

4. Kell
5. North Springs

CLASS 5A REGION 7 DUALS PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS

Region 7: Hosted by Cartersville
Calhoun, Cartersville, Cass, Dalton, Hiram, Woodland

Cass is one of the best teams in the State regardless of classification, they should smash their way to the Region Title this year. There are lots of results from this Region, but very few of them are head to head match ups. Woodland is still a very solid team, but nothing like what they have been the last few years, however they should be strong enough to advance to the Region Duals Finals against Cass.

3. Cartersville
4. Calhoun
5. Hiram
6. Dalton

CLASS 5A REGION 8 DUALS PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS

Region 8: Hosted by Eastside
Clarke Central, Eastside, Flowery Branch, Heritage Conyers, Jefferson, Loganville, Winder Barrow

Jefferson is also one of the best teams in the State regardless of classification, and they are on a collision course with Cass for an epic dual in the State Finals, getting through Region will not pose much of a problem for the Dragons. After Jefferson, Flowery Branch and Eastside should have a great battle in the semifinals, with the winner moving on to the finals to face Jefferson. Winder has wins over both Clarke Central and Loganville, so look for them to slide into the 4th spot.
