Grappler Fall Classic — Georgia Preview

The Grappler Fall Classic is underway in Sandusky, Ohio today, and Georgia has brought a loaded contingent north for one of the premier early-season national tournaments in the country.

We have state placers, state champions, All-Americans, and nationally ranked wrestlers competing in a deep field with kids from across the country. It is a great opportunity to earn big wins, test offseason progress, and build national recognition before the high school season begins.

Georgia’s National & Seeded Heavy Hitters

Georgia brings several wrestlers into this tournament with the credentials to contend for titles. Here are the nationally ranked and seeded standouts leading the way:

  • Cody Clarke
    • The Outlook: Clarke has two wins at 132 pounds: a pin over Payne Walker in 1:02 and an 18–2 technical fall over Damian Perez in 2:20. His next listed opponent is Hughie Carpenter in the championship round of 32. The original preview lists him as a two-time GFC champion, No. 5 nationally at 126 and the No. 1 seed here. His opening results have given Georgia one of its strongest starts.
  • Harrison Murdock
    • The Outlook: Pre-event background; current match status not verified: The original preview lists Murdock No. 5 nationally at 165 pounds and as the No. 1 seed at the same weight, putting him squarely in the championship conversation. He is one of the names Georgia fans should be following as the tournament moves into its toughest rounds. The top seed brings expectations, but a field like this still requires a complete day of wrestling. For Murdock, the opportunity is to turn that national standing into another major tournament title and head toward the high school season with a strong result behind him.
  • Ronan An
    • The Outlook: Pre-event background; current match status not verified: The original preview lists An No. 9 nationally at 215 pounds and entered at 285 as the No. 2 seed, creating one of the most interesting Georgia storylines in the tournament. The bigger opponents present a different challenge, and how he handles those size differences will be worth watching. Can he create scoring opportunities, keep matches in positions that suit him, and make his opponents work at his pace? His seed puts him among the leading contenders, and a deep run at heavyweight would be another impressive addition to his national résumé.
  • Derik Kiefer
    • The Outlook: Kiefer pinned Michael Lauhoff III in 48 seconds after an opening bye at 113 pounds. His next listed match is Brady Sher in the championship round of 32. The original preview lists Kiefer as last year’s sixth-place finisher, No. 15 nationally at 106 and the seventh seed at 113. He remains on the championship side, with another demanding match immediately ahead.
  • James Sievers (9th seed at 144 lbs) & Mihai Necula (10th seed at 144 lbs)
    • The Outlook: Pre-event background; current match status not verified: The original preview lists Sievers ninth and Necula tenth at 144 pounds, positioned to challenge the names above them. Both have an opportunity to turn a strong tournament into valuable national recognition. Seeds nine and ten put them in the conversation, but winning the close matches and breaking through against higher-seeded opponents will determine how far they go. With Antonio Martinez and Carson Kimbrough also on the original registration list at this weight, 144 could become an important part of Georgia’s day.

Dark Horses & Rising Stars to Watch

The seeded names will draw attention, but Georgia has plenty of wrestlers capable of putting together a breakthrough performance. These are some of the storylines worth following:

  • Allie Procter & Miranda Lencrerot (Girls Division)
    • The Outlook: Allie Procter pinned Aurora Wanamaker in 1:27 in the 105-pound quarterfinals and is now paired with Sophia Herzog in the semifinals. Miranda Lencrerot advanced by a bye into the 145-pound semifinals; her opponent was not yet named in the individual match history when checked. That gives Georgia two semifinalists to follow, while keeping the distinction clear between a contested win and advancement by a bye.
  • Ty Gorman
    • The Outlook: Gorman won his opener at 98 pounds, defeating Grayson Sealock by 15–0 technical fall in 3:30. He is now paired with Asher Asad in the championship round of 16. The Georgia matchup is no longer hypothetical: both advanced, and one will move into the quarterfinals. Following the Super 32 qualifier title noted in the original preview, Gorman has started GFC with another convincing result.
  • The Hargrove Brothers
    • The Outlook: Gable Hargrove has two pins at 120, stopping Anze Williams in 5:31 and Cooper Long in 1:35. His next listed opponent is Cohen Reer in the round of 32. At 132, Cohen Hargrove defeated Graeson Harris by 22–3 technical fall in 2:55 after an opening bye and is paired with Dominic Cordero in the round of 32. Both brothers remain on the championship side.
  • Cooper McArthur
    • The Outlook: McArthur won his first contested match at 126 pounds, pinning Benjamin Flick in 2:43 after a bye. Collin Bartos is his next listed opponent in the championship round of 32. His return storyline now has a strong opening result to go with it. The previously discussed championship matchup with Kamari Rivers-Childs is no longer possible because Rivers-Childs has moved to the consolation bracket.
  • Ashton Glasgow
    • The Outlook: Pre-event background; current match status not verified: Glasgow made a strong impression as a freshman, beating Tyler Herring at sectionals before finishing second to him at state. Those results showed that he could compete with one of the toughest wrestlers in his state bracket, and now he gets another opportunity to test himself against opponents from around the country. Registered at 138 Elite and Varsity, Glasgow is a name worth following throughout the day. A strong GFC performance would build on that freshman season and give Georgia fans another reason to be excited about what comes next.
  • Walker Woodard
    • The Outlook: Pre-event background; current match status not verified: Woodard enters this stretch after a Fargo All-American finish, bringing a major summer accomplishment into the fall schedule. Now he has a chance to carry that success into folkstyle at 150 pounds. Different rules and different opponents make this a fresh test, but he arrives with experience competing deep into a national tournament. Another podium finish would strengthen an already growing résumé, and wins over established opponents could make his GFC performance just as meaningful. He is another Social Circle wrestler who could give Georgia fans plenty to talk about by the end of the day.

More Georgia Wrestlers & Storylines to Watch

The following updates use the live individual match histories checked at 10:02–10:04 a.m. Eastern. Byes are identified separately from contested wins.

  • Asher Asad
    • The Outlook: Asad delivered one of Georgia’s biggest early results, pinning Cameron Smith in 2:32 at 98 pounds. Smith was identified as the top seed in the published pre-event preview. Asad is now paired with Ty Gorman in the round of 16, setting up a Georgia matchup with a quarterfinal spot at stake. His opening draw was a major test, and he answered it with a fall.
  • Robert McLaulin
    • The Outlook: McLaulin opened at 113 pounds with a 17–1 technical fall over Kevin Shamblin in 2:11, then lost 12–7 to Spencer Fuller. After a consolation bye, his next listed match is Vince McCoy in the consolation sub-round of 32. His outlook has shifted from a championship run to a wrestleback run, where he will look to build on the scoring he showed in his opener.
  • Dane DeCosta & Hudson McFate
    • The Outlook: The Georgia matchup is now listed on the 113-pound consolation side. DeCosta lost to Chase VanPortfliet by 16–0 technical fall in 4:28, while McFate lost 5–0 to Aidan Ortega. After consolation byes, they are paired in Bout 347, consolation sub-round of 32. The earlier projected championship meeting is outdated; this match now determines who continues through the wrestlebacks.
  • Brighton Prine
    • The Outlook: Prine has two wins at 120 pounds: a pin over Grady Lanz in 1:48, followed by a 9–8 decision over Kamden Deshon. His next listed opponent is MasonMason DellaPenta, as displayed in the live history, in the championship round of 32. Prine has already won both a decisive opener and a one-point match. The earlier potential championship meeting with Jayme Jones is no longer possible following Jones’s loss.
  • Jayme Jones
    • The Outlook: After an opening bye at 120 pounds, Jones lost to Donovan Jenkins by 18–0 technical fall in 4:24. He then received a consolation bye and is listed to face Jailen Steave in the consolation sub-round of 32. The focus now is his response in the wrestlebacks. His earlier championship path through Bagdonas or Steave, and the potential quarterfinal with Prine, no longer applies.
  • Christopher Metz
    • The Outlook: Metz pinned Jase Sensor in 5:31 in his first contested match at 132 pounds, following an opening bye. He is now paired with Bryce Perry in the championship round of 32. That replaces the earlier preview of Sensor as his upcoming opponent. Metz joins Clarke and Cohen Hargrove among the wrestlers still advancing on the championship side at this weight.
  • Christopher Phillips
    • The Outlook: Phillips opened at 132 pounds by pinning Nicholas Freeze in 2:20, then lost a 4–3 decision to Devan Garcia. He responded with a 3–1 consolation win over Cano Austin. His next listed assignment is Bout 441, consolation sub-round of 32, with the opponent not yet named in his history when checked. He has already put a win behind the narrow loss and continues through the wrestlebacks.
  • Kamari Rivers-Childs
    • The Outlook: Rivers-Childs received an opening bye at 126 pounds, then lost to Ben Wolfe by fall in 1:17. Following a consolation bye, he is paired with Brendon Oehme in the consolation sub-round of 32. His profile also confirms a 126 Varsity entry. The earlier potential championship meeting with McArthur is no longer in play; his Elite tournament now continues on the consolation side.
  • Beau Abbott
    • The Outlook: Abbott’s live profile confirms entries at 132 Elite and 130 Middle School. In the Elite bracket, he received a bye and then lost 9–7 to Anthony Bergeron. His next listed Elite opponent is Rocco Batt in the consolation round of 64. That removes the earlier potential championship meeting with Cohen Hargrove. Abbott’s two divisions should be tracked separately when describing his results.
  • Jack Procter
    • The Outlook: Procter pinned Alex Cohen in 5:26 in his opening match at 132 pounds, confirming the corrected result. He then lost to Lucas Barrios by 17–1 technical fall in 5:14, before rebounding with a pin over Alfredo Cheang in 2:19. His next listed opponent is Lucas Milian in the consolation sub-round of 32. Jack’s tournament now includes two pins and a chance to keep working back toward a medal.
  • Gavin Newton
    • The Outlook: Newton lost his 132-pound opener to Josiah Stanton by 17–1 technical fall in 2:42, then advanced through a consolation bye. His next listed match is Jase Sensor in the consolation round of 64. His live profile also lists a 132 Varsity entry. The bye is advancement rather than a contested win, and the two divisions should be kept separate when reporting his tournament record.
  • Victoria Terry
    • The Outlook: Terry advanced by a bye into the 155-pound Elite quarterfinals, where her next listed opponent is Rylie Egan. Her live profile confirms entries at 155 Elite and 155 Varsity. The September 24 seed article listed her second at the Elite weight; that is pre-event context rather than a newly verified final seed. No contested result appeared in her match history during this check. [2]
  • Bianca Barbarossi
    • The Outlook: Barbarossi’s live profile confirms 170 and 190 Elite entries, plus 170 and 190 Varsity entries, resolving the earlier weight question. At 170 Elite, she defeated Presleigh Casselman 13–6. Her listed remaining round-robin opponents include Aaliyah Langell, Janiya Johnson and Elena Haugh. At 190 Elite, she advanced by a bye into the semifinals, with an opponent not yet named in her history when checked. Her results need to be tracked separately by division.

Georgia has title contenders, returning All-Americans, young wrestlers looking for a breakthrough, and plenty of opportunities across the brackets. Who takes advantage of those opportunities and makes a name for themselves today? We will see.
