Greco Recap

Michigan brought two squads to the 16U National Duals in Utah this past week. Greco took place on days 1 and 2, followed by Freestyle on Friday and Saturday.

Michigan Blue went 1-2 on Day 1, taking 7th place on Pool C, but they would bounce back on Day 2, going 5-0 in the Green Pool. Dylan Nieuwenhuis, Royce Beal, and Sawyer Stephenson all went undefeated for Michigan in the Greco portion of the tournament.

Michigan Red went 0-3 in Pool A, seeing some of the top seeds in the tournament. The Red squad had a much better Day 2, going 3-1 in the Yellow pool. The Red team was especially tough down low with Dakota Harmer, Dylan Phillips, and John McKay combining to go 14-0 between 94 and 106lbs.

Freestyle Recap

The Blue team ran into some loaded squads in Pool C, going 3-2 on Day 1, including a loss to Indiana in the True 2nd Place match that dropped them to the Bronze/Copper Pool. On Day 2, Michigan lost three tight matches to Texas, California, and PA Red, while picking up a convincing win over Kansas. Four guys went 8-1 in the Freestyle tournament, including Dominick Sindone, Gavin Boller, Jamison Gregory, and Cael Tyler. Boller was 15-2 overall, while Stephenson was 14-1 and Cael Tyler was 14-3.

Michigan Red dropped their first four duals of the freestyle tournament before ending on a positive note with 2 consecutive wins. They won back-to-back barnburner duals over North Dakota and South Carolina. The two undefeated wrestlers for Michigan Red were Dakota Harmer and Dylan Phillips, which put them at 13-0 and 7-0, respectively, for the entire tournament.
