2024 Central Regionals Results - 16U and JR

The 2024 Central Regional Championship took place over the weekend in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The top-6 placers in each weight for 16U and Junior Freestyle and Greco automatically qualify for the 2024 16U and Junior National Championships in Fargo, ND, which will take place on July 12th-20th.

In all, Michigan had 89 wrestlers qualify for Fargo, with Junior Girls Freestyle qualifying the most at 20 wrestlers. The breakdown of placers by style and age group is as follows:
Junior Boys Freestyle - 12
Junior Girls Freestyle - 20
16U Boys Freestyle - 15
16U Girls Freestyle - 13
Junior Boys Greco - 13
16U Boys Greco - 16

Connor Bercume was the lone champion for Michigan in Junior Boys Freestyle, teching his way through the tournament. Layne Martin, Nicholas Sorrow, and Austin Gyorkos led the way in 16U Boys Freestyle, all taking first. There were a plethora of champs for the women, led by Madison Nieuwenhuis, Alexis Lazar, and Cheyenne Frank, who all won both 16U and Junior freestyle. Nakayla Dawson and Nanda Kibi also won 16U golds. On the Junior side, Isabella Cepak, Emily Medford, Rihanna Venegas, Kaili Manuel, Maddison Ward, and Heaven Cole all won their brackets.

There were three champs for Greco on Sunday, including Santana Ramon in Juniors and Austin Gyorkos and Tyler Meeuwsen in 16U. Gyorkos had a fantastic weekend, winning both styles.
