NCAA Championships: Day 2 Updates

Session 4 Recap

4 Michigan Grapplers secured All American honors on Friday evening, to go along with Cardenas and Barr, who had already guaranteed a top-6 finish on the podium. Josh Barr won a 5-3 battle over #1 Cardenas to reach the finals at 197lbs as a freshman. Barr used a takedown in a first period scramble, and then a long rideout, to win the rubber match against the Wolverine.

A year after falling short in the blood round, Braeden Davis won a tight match against All American Evan Frost (Iowa State). In one of the better matches of the round, former Michigan State Spartans squared off in the blood round. Fish, now at Oklahoma State, picked up a big takedown in OT to beat Saldate, who transferred to Michigan in the offseason.

Cameron Amine, a grad of Detroit Catholic Central, secured his 4th All American honors with a remarkable takedown in overtime to beat #11 Scoles. Amine, who placed 7th, 4th, and 4th at Michigan, transferred to Oklahoma State for his grad year. Amine joins an elite list of Michigan Grapplers to place 4 times at the NCAA tournament.

Morning Recap

We are through the third session of the 2025 NCAA tournament, and All Americans are starting to be crowned! Winners of the quarterfinals are guaranteed top-6 and will wrestle in tonight's semis for spots in the finals. There are two Michigan Grapplers in tonight's semifinals, and they happen to wrestle each other. #4 Josh Barr (Penn State, Davison HS) was dominant in his 13-3 major decision over #5 Beard to secure All American honors in his freshman year. 2x All American Jacob Cardenas (Michigan) won a solid 9-5 decision against #24 Sollars of Indiana to advance to the semis.

We still have a handful of guys left in the wrestlebacks, including Davis, Lemley, Fish, Amine, Saldate Mantanona, and Heindselman. Michigan is sitting at 10th in the team race, just two points behind #9 Cornell.
