2x State Champ Jacob Cooper commits to Michigan State

SPARTANS LAND TOP 150 RECRUIT TO KICK OFF RECRUITING SEASON

With two state titles under his belt, three trips to the Division 4 State Finals in as many years, and over 130 career wins in his prep career, Springport senior Jacob Cooper had some options for his college future.

However, the #16 ranked wrestler in the country at 195lbs chose to stay close to home, as he has informed Michigan Grappler that will be wrestling for the Michigan State Spartans after his high school career is over.

"I really wanted to stay in-state and MSU started the recruiting proccess early with me and treated me like family," said Cooper.

Cooper won the Division 4 State Title last year at 189lbs with a 45-2 season record, making it back-to-back titles for him as he won his sophomore year at 160lbs.  He was also runner-up at the Grappler Fall Classic last year in a weight class that featured 8 wrestlers who finished top 3 in the state from their respective states.

In addition to being ranked #16 in the country at 195lbs by the Associated Wrestling Press, Cooper is also listed as one of the Top 150 senior recruits in the country.  

With all he has accomplished, he still has his sights on more.

"My goal for my final year is to win another state title and go undefeated," said Cooper.  "In college I would to compete hard, do well, and accomplish my dream of being an All-American."

Cooper will major in Kinesiology at Michigan State, and credits his father and coaches Chris Williams, Pat Whitford, Roger Massa, and Springport HS coach Dave Pratt for getting him to this point in his career.
