September isn't typically a time that athletes have the chance to demonstrate their skills in front of college coaches. However, this year, 16 programs will travel to Ithaca to look for their next recruits at the Spartan Combat RTC Prospect Combine.
According to Tioga Head Coach Kris Harrington, the goal is to "create a place for coaches to evaluate athletes, interact and train together to find which attendees are a 'right' fit for their athletic program and institution either next year or in the future."
"The camp will be structured in a manner that allows coaches to evaluate your skills while at the same time you can determine if their technical/coaching style is an appropriate fit for you," Harrington said. "In addition to wrestling, you will have the opportunity to learn about their program's culture and academic standards."
The following coaches have committed to the event:
American - Jason Borelli
Binghamton - Kyle Borshoff
Bridgewater State - Fox Maxwell
Brockport - Caleb Garvey
Buffalo - John Stutzman
Cornell - Mike Gray
Cortland - Tom Prairie
Hofstra - Dennis Papadatos
Ithaca - Marty Nichols
Lock Haven - Scott Moore
RIT - Jason Bovenzi
Sacred Heart - John Clark
St. John Fisher - Ryne Morrison
Wesleyan - Drew Black
Western New England - Mike Sugermeyer
Williams College - Scott Honecker
"We're excited to bring a variety of great teams, from the Division 1, 2 and 3 levels," Harrington said. "It's a great opportunity for wrestlers to get exposure to college coaches from different parts of the country in a small setting."
