All-American Best Bets
- #6 Cameron Amine (Oklahoma State, Detroit CC HS) - Cam Amine, a 3x All American for the University of Michigan, has transferred to Oklahoma State for his final year of eligibility. He will be looking for his first finals appearance and championship after finishing 7-4-4-Q the last four seasons. There may not be a better situation for him in the country with training partners like Dean Hamiti, Caleb Fish, Teague Travis, Brayden Thompson, and more. He also has one of the best coaching staffs in the country with new head coach David Taylor, plus assistants Jimmy Kennedy and Tyler Caldwell.
- #12 Casey Swiderski (Iowa State, Dundee HS) - Casey Swiderski will look to make the podium for a second consecutive season this year. In a very surprising move, Swiderski is down at 141lbs, which will make him one of the bigger 141lbers in the country this year. Last year at 149lbs, Swiderski secured a spot on the podium with a big OT win over D'Emilio (Ohio State) in the blood round. He then picked up a 19-8 major decision in the 7th place match over Kidder (Rider).
- #7 Taye Ghadiali (Campbell, Warren Fitzgerald HS) - Ghadiali was the other of two Michigan Grapplers to reach the podium at the NCAA tournament a year ago. Ghadiali surely had NIL offers to transfer in the offseason, as many bigger schools are in need of an All-American caliber heavyweight, but Ghadiali chose to ride with the Camels for one more season. The nation's wins leader from a season ago will be looking to build on his 8th-place finish from the 2024 NCAA tournament.
- #13 Josh Edmond (Missouri, Detroit CC HS) - Edmond was seconds away from an All American finish a year ago in Kansas City. After taking 3rd in the conference tournament, Edmond reached the blood round at the NCAA tournament, dropping a very controversial sudden victory match to Vombaur (Minnesota). His biggest win came in the first round over 12-seed Henson (Lock Haven). We expect Edmond to have a big season and tournament to reach the podium this year.
- #10 Braeden Davis (Penn State, Dundee HS) - Braeden Davis was one of the standout freshmen in the nation last year, winning the Big Ten tournament and entering the NCAA tournament as the #1 seed. This season, Davis will be up at 133lbs, which will present a new challenge. Not only is he up a weight this year, but he will likely need to beat out All-American Aaron Nagao to win the starting spot at Penn State this season. The only two losses at the NCAA tournament last year came in the quarterfinals to eventual champ Figueroa (Arizona State), and then in the blood round to 7th-place finisher Jore Volk (Wyoming).
- Alex Facundo (Penn State, Davison HS) - Alex Facundo was an NCAA qualifier two years ago before redshirting last season. Facundo showed signs of being a contender this offseason, beating teammate and NCAA champ Levi Haines at the Olympic Trials. One of the only things as tough as making the podium in March is making the Penn State lineup, which may be true for Facundo this year. Facundo is likely dropping to 157lbs this year, where he would need to beat someone like Tyler Kasak, who took 3rd at the NCAA tournament a year ago. Whoever wins the starting spot at 157lbs is not only an All American favorite, but a threat to win the NCAA tournament.
- #22 Josh Barr (Penn State, Davison HS) - With 4x NCAA champ Carter Starocci moving up to 184lbs, Josh Barr is going all the way up to 197lbs this season. With another year to develop in the best practice room in the country, don't be surprised if Josh Barr continues to climb this list through the season and finishes high on the podium this season. A 4x MHSAA state champ, Junior Nationals champ, and one of the most touted recruits in recent Michigan history, Barr will no doubt have a fantastic career for the Nittany Lions.
- Derek Gilcher (Indiana, Detroit CC HS) - Following an NCAA qualifying season in 2023, Derek Gilcher was off to a great start last year before an injury derailed his season. The Hoosier was ranked as high as #9 in the country before his injury at the Sheridan Open. We expect Gilcher to be back at 165lbs this year, and with a handful of wins over guys in the top-20 to start the season, it will be interesting to see how he bounces back from injury.
- #23 Stoney Buell (Purdue, Dundee HS) - Buell had 7 ranked wins last season for the Boilermakers en route to his first NCAA tournament appearance. We like Buell to make his second consecutive appearance, this time looking to reach the podium in Philadelphia. Like Barr, Buell was a 4x state champ and has a Fargo stop sign to his name, and he is looking to reach the high ceiling he proved to have in high school.
- #31 Dylan Gilcher (Michigan, Detroit CC HS) - A 4x MHSAA state champ for Detroit Catholic Central, Gilcher redshirted for Michigan last year. This year as a redshirt freshman, Gilcher is already off to a hot start. He finished 3rd at the Clarion Open, with his only loss coming to #11 D'Emilio. Gilcher had a big win in the quarterfinals, beating NCAA qualifier Jack Crook (Harvard).
