126lbs
#1 Archer Anderson (Clarkston) SR, 40-2/’24 State 1st, ‘23 State 2nd, ‘22 State 5th
#14 Drake Pollins (Brighton) JR, 35-9/’24 State 4th, ‘23 State Q
#5 Bryce Holt (Romeo) JR, 36-12/’24 State 7th, ‘23 State 4th
#11 Tristan King (Temperance Bedford) JR, 49-8/’24 State Q, ‘23 State Q
Outlook: The individual rankings for this weight maybe aren't super impressive right now, but this quarter bracket is about as tough as it gets. Three returning placers here, as well as state qualifier in King. Archer Anderson is not only ranked #1, but he is the overall #1 seed in the weight. Someone extremely tough will be going 0-2 from this group.
126lbs
#7 Aurelio Mendez (Jenison) SR, 32-7
#10 Kenny Thomas (Port Huron Northern) SR, 32-15
#3 Jamison Gregory (Detroit CC) SO, 33-5/’24 State 3rd
#6 Carl Nihranz (Macomb Dakota) JR, 41-6/’24 State 5th, ‘23 State 8th
Outlook: Not too many weights in the tournament have a quarter bracket with all 4 wrestlers ranked top-10. Gregory and Nihranz are returning state placers, while Mendez and Thomas are having great seasons, currently ranked 7th and 10th, respectively. Someone in the top-10 is guaranteed to go two-and-out in this one.
132lbs
#2 Nathan Walkowiak (Detroit CC) SR, 25-10/’24 State 6th,‘23 State 3rd, ‘22 State 8th
#8 Hunter Pulawski (Byron Center) JR, 37-7/’24 State 8th
#5 Dominic Perez (Davison) SR, 22-10/’24 State Q
#14 Oliver Koepp (SCS Lakeview) SR, 29-7
Outlook: Walkowiak is a 3x placer with a legitimate shot at reaching the finals, while Pulawski was a state placer last year. Perez qualified last year and has himself ranked in the top-5 this season.
138lbs
#1 Jace Morgan (Rochester Adams) SR, 43-0/’24 State 4th, ‘23 State 4th, ‘22 State 7th
#14 Lucas Gerber (Temperance Bedford) SR, 34-10/’24 State Q
#4 Liam Fitzpatrick (Rockford) JR, 35-9/’24 State 4th, ‘23 State Q
#7 Easton Culver (Hartland) SR, 26-4/’24 State 3rd, ‘23 State 3rd, ‘22 State Q
Outlook: This is one of the toughest, if not the toughest, quarter bracket across all five divisions. Morgan is the #1 overall seed, while Fitzpatrick and Culver have both placed top-4 previously. Gerber was a state qualifier last year.
157lbs
#1 Braylenn Aulbach (Rockford) SR, 40-2/’23 State 7th, ‘22State Q
#13 Jake Turley (Romeo) SR, 37-11
#7 Jacob Kennedy (Westland John Glenn) SR, 41-6/’24 State Q, ‘23 State 8th
#5 Joseph Cappellano (Hartland) JR, 42-9/’24 State Q
Outlook: Yet another tough 1/4 bracket in D1 with three wrestlers ranked to place in the state. Aulbach is the #1 overall seed, Kennedy placed two years ago, and Cappellano is ranked top-5 in the state this year.
190lbs
#5 Connor Brintnall (Hudsonville) SR, 44-2/’24 State Q
#13 Bryce Ferguson (Ferndale) SR, 45-5
#4 RJ Green (South Lyon) JR, 24-4/’24 State 6th
#6 Cameron Savage (Davison) JR, 24-9
Outlook: This quarter bracket has three potential finalists in it, plus Ferguson who has been putting together a phenomenal season. Brintnall and Green were both at the state tournament last season, with Green taking 6th. Not many wrestlers in the state are wrestling better than Brintnall right now, as he has knocked off quite a few top-10 opponents over the last two months. Savage is in his first year in the starting lineup for Davison, but he has been tough to beat all season, ranked as high as #4 during the year.
106lbs
#7 Tyler Sage (Linden) FR, 55-1
#16 Rene Gonzalez (Mason) JR, 25-8
#5 Aiden Chavez (Zeeland West) JR, 32-5/’24 State Q
#3 Pilot Swab (Stevensville Lakeshore) SO, 41-7/’24 State 5th
Outlook: Although he's ranked 7th, Tyler Sage is the #1 overall seed for the state tournament. Swab is a threat to win it all as well after taking 5th last year. Chavez is having a solid year after qualifying last season. Only 21 losses combined this season between the four wrestlers here.
120lbs
#8 Diego Orozco (Adrian) SR, 34-5/’24 State 4th, ‘23 State Q
#6 Cole Cichocki (Lowell) SO, 23-15/’24 State 2nd
#7 Lucas Christopher (Fenton) FR, 38-7
#10 Zachary Aardema (Fruitport) SO, 31-7
Outlook: Like 126lbs in D1, this weight features a 1/4 bracket with four guys ranked in the top-10. Someone ranked #10 or better is going home early! Cichocki is a returning finalist, Orozco took 4th last year, and Lucas Christopher is one of the better freshmen in the state. This will be a good one!
150lbs
#5 Deacon MacNeill (Brother Rice) JR, 22-1/’24 State Q, ‘23 State 8th
#14 Marco Vega (Plainwell) SR, 24-11
#7 Jacob Hodge (Fowlerville) FR, 47-5
#8 Christian Bossbach (Bay City John Glenn) JR, 32-8/’24 State 8th
Outlook: Two state placers here with MacNeill in 2023 and Bossbach last year, as well as one of the standout freshmen in the state in Hodge. Vega is also extremely tough. MacNeill may be the slight favorite to advance, but Hodge and Bossbach are right on his heels after their exciting first round match.
157lbs
#6 Ayden Tatum (Orchard Lake St. Mary) JR, 29-0/’24 State Q,‘23 State Q
#8 Vernon Riggins (Stevensville Lakeshore) SR, 39-8/’24 State Q, ‘23 State Q,‘22 State 4th
#3 Drew Ladach (New Boston Huron) SR, 50-3/’24 State 6th, ‘23 State Q
#10 Cooper Lengkeek (Fruitport) JR, 39-5
Outlook: Second weight in D2 with everyone being #10 or better. Tatum is a 2x qualifier but has not yet reached the podium. Riggins was a state placer as a Frosh, and Ladach took 6th last year. Lengkeek also comes in with a 39-5 record and is a tough out. Someone deserving of a podium spot will go home early.
215lbs
#2 Case Johnson (Greenville) SR, 53-1/’24 State 2nd, ‘23State 3rd, ‘22 State Q
#8 Cayden Bell (Lansing Waverly) SR, 44-5/’24 State 4th, ‘23 State Q
#12 Juan Acosta (Lowell) SR, 23-13/’23 State Q
#6 James Mahon (Goodrich) SR, 30-3/’24 State 1st, ‘23 State 1st, ‘22 State 6th
Outlook: Johnson and Bell were #1 and #2 earlier this season, and Mahon has won the last two state championships at 285lbs. Acosta was a qualifier two seasons ago at 285lbs before missing last year with an injury. This is a ridiculous quarter bracket, with whoever makes it out becoming a real possibility to win a state champion.
132lbs
#10 Cooper Anderson (Hopkins) JR, 42-6
#4 Kersten McClelland (Yale) JR, 47-8/’24 State Q
#9 Adam Hunter (Kent City) FR, 42-8
#8 Ryan Moreno (Clare) SR, 32-5/’24 State Q
Outlook: Like we said earlier, if everyone is #10 or better, you'll make the list of toughest quarter brackets. Moreno and McClelland are returning qualifiers looking to make the podium for the first time. This foursome has combined for a record of 163-27 this season, which is just truly remarkable.
138lbs
#1 Wyatt Burns (Dundee) SO, 31-9/’24 State 4th
#15 Hunter Dalrymple (Chippewa Hills) JR, 36-15
#6 Bear Geibe (Constantine) JR, 45-6/’24 State 8th, ‘23 State Q
#8 Kaelen Harrington (Birch Run) SO, 47-11
Outlook: Burns and Geibe are returning state placers, and then you add #8 Harrington to the mix. Dalrymple is also having a solid season as a #15. Burns is the favorite to make it out of this quarter, but it is a tough one nonetheless.
165lbs
#7 Austin Humphrey (Chippewa Hills) SR, 20-2/’24 State Q,‘23 State Q
#8 Logan Chunn (Armada) JR, 44-11/’24 State Q
#4 Landon Guilford (Portland) SO, 36-5/’24 State Q
#10 Carson Warner (Napoleon) SO, 39-7/’24 State 6th
Outlook: All four wrestlers in this quarter were at the 2024 state tournament, which is extremely rare. Warner was the lone placer, taking 6th a season ago. Guilford would be the slight favorite to advance, but this quarter is really up in the air.
190lbs
#2 Trevor Thorbahn (Gladstone) JR, 21-0/’24 State Q
#5 Caden Minton (Corunna) SR, 50-5/’24 State Q
#8 Davi’on King (Michigan Center) JR, 37-11
#11 Paul Stanczak (Armada) SR, 42-8/’24 State Q
Outlook: Three state qualifiers at 190lbs, plus #8 King. Thorbahn, Minton, and Stanczak were all at Ford Field last year and will be looking to make the podium for the first time. Someone ranked #11 or better will go 0-2, which is always tough enough to put the weight on this list.
285lbs
#2 Cal Chapman (Dowagiac) SR, 38-2/’24 State 6th
#13 Nick Brasseur (Gladwin) SO, 40-15
#5 Joel Simon (Lakewood) SR, 44-4/’24 State 4th, ‘23 State 3rd, ‘22 State Q
#8 Joseph Abramovitch (Armada) SR, 47-7
Outlook: Another weight with an incredible combined record. These heavyweights combined to go 169-28 on the season, which is outrageous. Simon and Chapman were on the podium last year and have legitimate shots at winning it all this year. At least one of the two won't even reach the semis this year.
113lbs
#2 Kolton Burns (Decatur) SO, 30-0/’24 State 6th
#8 Zachary Taylor (Clinton) SO, 41-9
#12 James Layman (Inland Lakes) JR, 32-10
#4 Blake Wendling (New Lothrop) SR, 27-5/’24 State 4th, ‘23 State Q, ‘22 State Q
Outlook: Burns will look to remain unbeaten on the year, but he will have an extremely tough first two matches to keep that streak alive. He will see #8 Taylor first before potentially seeing returning placer Wendling in the QFs. Taylor and Layman are both tough in their own right.
144lbs
#4 Skyler Stalbaum (Hesperia) SR, 44-3/’24 State 4th
#7 Aiden Turner (Perry) JR, 40-12/’24 State Q
#3 Aidan Taylor (Union City) SR, 42-5/’24 State 7th, ‘23 State Q, ‘22 State Q
#14 Korbyn Smith (Munising) SR, 28-10/’24 State Q
Outlook: Another rare weight with all four in the quarter being state qualifiers. Stalbaum and Taylor were both state placers last year at Ford Field, while Turner and Smith were both there as well.
157lbs
#2 Jericho Holmes (Pine River) JR, 42-2/’24 State Q, ‘23 State 5th
#16 Cayden Wieczorek (Munising) SR, 27-8
#4 Cliff Jones (Clinton) JR, 31-3/’24 State Q
#7 Gabriel Erwin (Bronson) JR, 36-4/’24 State 2nd
Outlook: Holmes took 5th two years ago and is ranked #2 this season. Erwin was a state finalist last season and is ranked #7 entering the tournament this year. Don't look past #4 Jones, who was a qualifier last year and is wrestling extremely well right now.
165lbs
#2 Layne Knisely (Bronson) JR, 44-2/’24 State 2nd, ‘23 State 5th
#16 Daniel Edwards (Whitmore Lake) SR, 31-21
#8 Conner Wenkel (Benzie Central) SR, 42-8/’24 State Q
#4 Lucas Vail (Lakeview) JR, 42-7/’24 State Q
Outlook: Knisely is a returning state finalist and is the favorite to advance here, but his potential QF match will be tough. #4 Vail vs #8 Wenkel is a fantastic first round match, as they're both returning state qualifiers.
190lbs
#1 Bryce Randolph (Clinton) JR, 37-4/’24 State 2nd, ‘23 State 5th
#16 Gavin Ziminski (Manistique) SR, 16-21
#4 Ethan Wakefield (Saginaw MLS) SR, 47-6/’24 State 4th
#7 Brody Marshall (Gobles) SO, 52-6
Outlook: Randolph is a 2x state placer, finishing as a finalist last year. Wakefield was also on the podium at Ford Field last season, taking 4th. Marshall is a first time qualifier, but he has put together an awesome 52-6 season so far. Having 3 of the top-7, including the #1 overall seed, makes for a very tough quarter bracket.
215lbs
#1 Landen Johnson (Lakeview) SR, 51-1/’24 State 5th, ‘23 State Q
#16 Jacob Peplinski (Glen Lake) JR, 8-13
#4 Sam Bleeker (Martin) SR, 36-14/’24 State Q
#6 Anthony Emelue (Gabriel Richard) JR, 34-11
Outlook: Having #1, #4, and #6 all in the same quarter bracket is tough. Bleeker and Johnson are both returning state qualifiers, with Johnson taking 5th last year. Johnson is also the #1 overall seed in this one.
115lbs
#4 Zionah Gardner (Homer) SR, 9-0/’24 State 4th, ‘23 State 4th, ‘22 State 7th
#11 Madelynn Corrigan (Powers North Central) SR, 15-5/’24 State 4th, ‘23 State Q, ‘22 State Q
#12 Milayna Shea (Ferndale) JR, 19-4
#9 Anna Buurma (Fowlerville) SO, 35-7/’24 State 4th
Outlook: Gardner is a 3x state placer, and Corrigan is now a 4x state qualifier, placing 4th last year. Buurma is also extremely tough, placing 4th as a Freshman last year. Two extremely tough first-round matches, with the QF match being even better.
120lbs
#4 Brooklin Armstrong (Kent City) JR, 20-3
#14 Kaelyn Adamson (South Haven) FR, 30-10
#2 Sky Langewicz (Algonac) SR, 12-2/’24 State 3rd, ‘23 State 1st, ‘22 State 1st
#7 Rayna Richardson (Brighton) SO, 30-6/’24 State Q
Outlook: #2, #4, and #7 all in one quarter here. Langewicz was a 2x state champ before taking third last year, so she will be looking to win her third title. She will have to go through Richardson first, who was a state qualifier last year and is extremely tough. Adamson is a very solid #14, and #4 Armstrong is putting together a great 20-3 campaign this year.
130lbs
#3 Angellaya Burden (Mio) SO, 21-1/’24 State 4th
#7 Azaylin Lindsey-Allen (Kalamazoo Central) SR, 9-7/’24 State Q, ‘23 State Q
#5 Hannah Blyveis (Fowlerville) SR, 36-4/’24 State 8th, ‘23 State 6th, ‘22 State 8th
#10 Sammie Koch (Birmingham Groves) SR, 14-5/’24 State 5th, ‘23 State Q, ‘22 State Q
Outlook: The only girl's weight with everyone in the quarter being #10 or higher. Burden is the small favorite to advance out of the semi, but keep an eye on 3x state placer Blyveis as well. Blyveis and Koch should be an excellent first-round match between returning state placers.
140lbs
#1 Mackenna Webster (Bronson) JR, 30-0/’24 State 6th, ‘23 State 3rd
#16 Jasmine Voss (Tawas) SO, 14-9/’24 State Q
#8 Kiely Davis (Fowlerville) JR, 15-5/’24 State Q
#4 Jacey Barnabei (Gabriel Richard) JR, 17-5/’24 State 4th, ‘23 State 3rd
Outlook: Webster is undefeated on the year and is the top overall seed, while Barnabei is a 2x placer already, looking to reach the top of the podium for the first time. Both of them will see returning state qualifiers in the first match, making this entire quarter bracket extremely tough.
145lbs
#3 Rihanna Venegas (Gabriel Richard) SR, 19-1/’24 State 2nd, ‘23 State 2nd, ‘22 State 4th
#12 Anya Zarzycki (Petoskey) JR, 14-3
#7 Cinthia Villegas (Dowagiac) SO, 27-7/’24 State 7th
#8 Morgan Ludwig (Midland) SR, 27-4/’24 State Q, ‘23 State 7th, ‘22 State 5th
Outlook: #3 Venegas is a returning finalist and will be the favorite to advance, but Zarzycki will be a solid first round opponent. #7 Villegas vs #8 Ludwig is a brutal first match, as both have previously placed at the state tournament.
