Week one of college wrestling for the 2024-25 season is in the books. Michigan and Michigan State both saw action, while CMU doesn't compete for the first time until this weekend at the CMU open.
Michigan State kicked off their dual season with a trip to American on Saturday. The Spartans picked up 6 wins, including a big bonus point win by Freshman Remy Cotton (Davison HS) to seal the victory. With the win, Michigan State starts the dual season 1-0 for the seventh consecutive season and has now won 23 consecutive non-conference duals dating back to 2020.

The Spartans will hold the annual Michigan State Open this weekend at Jenison Fieldhouse.
Michigan Senior Joe Walker won gold at 174lbs, leading a group of eight Wolverine place winners in the first competition of the season at the Clarion Open. Walked, ranked 28th in the country per Intermat, beat Clarion's Josh Worthing in the finals. True frosh Brock Mantanona and returning NCAA qualifier Jaden Bullock also reached the finals at 165lbs and 184lbs, respectively. Dylan Gilcher had another notable tournament, as his third-place finish propelled him into the national rankings at 149lbs.
