Army - EIWA
Currently hold a 5-1 dual record with a win over #24 Purdue 20-19 with the lone loss coming to #2 Iowa 23-16. The West Point Knights are currently ranked #24 in dual rankings, and have high team finishes in individual tournaments as well. Those include a 2nd place finish at the Black Knight Invite and a 1st place finish at the Southern Scuffle.
Binghamton - EIWA
The Bearcats hold a 5-7 dual record which can be deceiving as five of those losses are to ranked teams (#1 Penn State, #10 Illinis, #17 Little Rock, #23 Mizzou, #26 Lehigh). Meanwhile, they hold wins over in-state teams Columbia, Hofstra, and LIU. Will Ebert has continued to be a showstopper this year for the Bearcats with upset wins over Edmond Ruth (Illinois) and Jaxon Smith (Maryland). Iroquois alum Cory Day has started the year with a 13-5 record and is currently ranked 17th, while Gouverneur alum Carter Baer has started with an 11-6 record as well.
Buffalo - MAC
Donnie Vinson inherited a very young team and has done a fabulous job at developing his wrestlers over the course of the season. Buffalo currently holds a 2-8 record with their two wins coming against Sacred Heart and Kent State. There are many Buffalo starters holding positive records this year including Sam Ewing, Kaleb Burgess (Pal-Mac), Hunter Shaut (Central Valley Academy), and Marcus Petite with Burgess a favorite to qualify for the national tournament.
Cornell - EIWA
The Big Red have started the year off with a 3-1 dual record and are currently ranked 11th in dual rankings and 9th in tournament rankings. They’ve beaten Lehigh 23-19, Mizzou 26-12, and shut out Buffalo 37-0. The only loss has come at the hands of #8 NC State 20-18. Cornell also was in Las Vegas for the CKLV Invite where they finished 18th with three podium finishes (125 Milani 8th, 149 Fernandez 8th, 174 Ruiz 4th) - important to note that Cornell was pretty banged up and did not send their full lineup to CKLV. Looking forward to the rest of the year, Cornell has multiple All-American threats in Greg Diakomihalis, Meyer Shapiro, Julian Ramirez, Simon Ruiz, and Chris Foca with several others currently nationally ranked.
Columbia - Ivy
In Donnie Pritzlaff’s inaugural season at Columbia he started off with a 3-4 record including wins over Cleveland State, Hofstra, and #29 Maryland. The biggest bright spot for this team has been Cesar Alvan as he holds an 18-7 record including a win over #12 Tyler Lillard (Indiana). Returning national qualifier Kai Owen has also started the season 11-7 with a win over Josh Saunders (Cornell), and Jack McGill has started off with a 14-9 record. Richard Fedalen has also been tough this year and recently earned a spot in the national rankings.
Hofstra - EIWA
Not a bad start for Hofstra in dual meets to start the year as they hold a 5-4 record. Kyle Mosher (South Side HS) and Ross McFarland (Phoenix HS) have anchored this team up top with Mosher holding wins over Cesar Alvan (Columbia) and McFarland having a nice win over Will Ebert (Binghamton). Both are serious contenders to qualify for the NCAA tournament this year.
Long Island - EIWA
The Sharks currently hold a 2-6 dual record with their two wins coming over Duke and Bloomsburg. From a tournament perspective, LIU finished 20th at the Southern Scuffle with lone placer being Brayden Roberts’ 4th place finish. They have three starters with records over .500 including Robbie Sagaris, Devin Matthews, and Brayden Roberts. Sagaris has been a bright spot for LIU with his electrifying win over 2x national qualifier Dean Petersen (Rutgers). LIU will be welcoming Iowa transfer Angelo Ferrari this semester and he's expected to begin competing on January 26. Ferrari was the #14 recruit in the class of 2022 and has notched wins over Victor Voinovich and Cade Seibrecht throughout his collegiate career. He was a former Super 32 finalist and Cadet World Team Trials finalist.
#1 Jacori Teemer (Long Beach HS, Iowa) - The 5x state champ out of Long Beach is currently the top dog at 157 lbs and will be one of the favorites to win a NCAA title in Philadelphia this year. Prior to transferring to Iowa, Teemer had qualified for the NCAA tournament 4x in a row, reaching the podium in three of those years (Q-4-6-2). Last year’s runner-up at 157 lbs, Levi Haines has since moved up two weights which makes Teemer the favorite this year. Currently coming back from injury, Iowa has said he should be serviceable for the postseason.
#8 Stevo Poulin (Shenendehowa HS, Northern Colorado) - Stevo has started his junior campaign off with a 16-1 record, comes in ranked 8th in Intermat’s latest rankings, and is fresh off a Southern Scuffle title. The 3x state champ out of Section II has fallen one match shy of the podium the last two years at the NCAA tournament, but has continued to prove he competes with the best of the best. Poulin holds wins over multiple All-Americans and highly ranked individuals including Jore Volk, Luke Lilledahl, and Caleb Smith.
#9 Tommy Askey (Pine Bush HS, Minnesota) - Askey is a recent App State transfer and is in his lone season with the Golden Gophers after acquiring his degree in Business Administration. Since making the move north Askey has started the season with a 15-2 record and has won gold at the Cougar Clash and Mountaineer Invite. Askey is a 2x national qualifier and was a match shy from making the podium at the NCAA tournament a year ago, while also winning the SoCon. Askey should be in the mix to make it on the podium this year in Philly.
#13 Greg Diakomihalis (Hilton HS, Cornell) - The 5x state champ out of Section V has been a little banged up to start the year and hasn’t competed since November 24th. Rumor has it Diakomihalis should be good to go for the postseason, but if not his backup Marcello Milani should be a good shoe-in (8th place finish at CKLV). Diakomihalis was stuck behind 2x national qualifier Brett Ungar last year, so he has yet to wrestle a postseason for the Big Red. Despite not having postseason experience, Diakomihalis has wins over multiple national qualifiers including Diego Sotelo, Ryan Miller, Kysen Terukina, and more.
#13 Willie McDougald (Niagara Falls HS, Oklahoma) - McDougald was a 2x state champ at Niagara Falls HS and is now a 2x national qualifier at Oklahoma. The 3x NHSCA All-American has started the year with a 14-2 record, recently gutting out a great win at Bedlam over Carter Young 7-6. In tournaments, McDougald has made the finals at both the Southern Scuffle and Daktronics Invite. McDougald has made it as far as the R16 at the national tournament, and holds wins over many national qualifiers and former All-Americans throughout his career.
#14 Anthony Noto (Honeoye Falls-Lima HS, Lock Haven) - Noto is a former 4x state champ out of Honeoye Falls-Lima and enters his senior campaign with an 11-5 record to start the year. Noto is also wrestling up a weight this year at 133 lbs. Noto is a 3x national qualifier and 2x All-American at 125 lbs for Lock Haven, having placed both 3rd and 4th in his collegiate career at the big dance. Despite a few losses to start the year, Noto recently beat Dylan Shawyer (Rutgers) who finished 7th at 133 lbs at NCAA’s a year ago. Don’t count Noto out as he’s come in outside the top 8 seeds at the NCAA tournament each year and has made a run high on to the podium.
#14 Brock Delsignore (Shenendehowa HS, Little Rock) - Delsignore transferred from NC State to Little Rock this year after seemingly being stuck behind Trent Hidlay in 2023 and Dylan Fishback in 2024. Little Rock has enjoyed his services as he started the year 11-4 and also finished 2nd at the Tiger Style Invite earlier in the year. Delsignore has proven he’s a contender at the weight this year with his previous win over Bennett Berge, who took 4th at NCAA’s a year ago.
#16 Colin Realbuto (Iona Prep HS, Northern Iowa) - Realbuto wrestles a tough schedule being at UNI and has still amassed a 13-4 record thus far. He had a questionable loss to Ridge Lovett a couple weeks ago (official missed two sets of swipes for Realbuto) but put many on notice that he is an All-American threat this year for the Panthers. Realbuto is a 2x national qualifier for UNI and has it made as far as the R16 at the national tournament. Doug Schwab will certainly have his guys ready to go for the conference and national tournament this year.
#17 Cory Day (Iroquois HS, Binghamton) - Last year Day was among the national leader in pins where he tallied 12 total and he made the R16 at the national tournament, now having qualified twice for NCAA's in his career. He's started the year with a 13-5 record and won the Big Red Invitational back in November. Day has had many impressive wins over his career including Lewis Fernandes, Grady Griess, and Nathan Taylor. Be on the lookout for the big man in Philly.
#24 Max Gallagher (Bayport-Blue Point HS, Penn) - Gallagher was a 2022 state champ and former Fargo and Super 32 All-American during his prep career at Bayport-Blue Point High School. Since then, he made the U23 World Team after his wins over Charlie Farmer and New York native Stevo Poulin. At the U23 World Championships he finished 5th in his first time representing the red, white and blue. At Penn he qualified for the national tournament as a freshman notching a record of 19-10, and has already started out with a 17-6 record so far. His best wins this year include Diego Sotelo and Tanner Jordan. With the national tournament being in the same city he attends school and only 2.5 hours from home, safe to say he should have a hometown crowd supporting him at NCAA's this year.
