The first duals of 2025 are slated for tonight, and there are a handful of good ones. The lone ranked dual of the night is Freeland vs Bay City John Glenn, in a preview of team districts. Other duals to watch for tonight are Greenville/Cedar Springs in a potential preview of team districts, and Grand Ledge/Lakewood in a D1/D3 dual. Stay tuned for more On Paper matchups as we enter an exciting weekend of dual tournaments.
Outlook: We really hope to see Rosebush/Smith at 106 and Hill/Greer at 138, although Freeland may be interested in getting #5 Hill on #9 Dimmitt up at 144. Those two matches, if they happen, could help to decide this dual. Freeland would love to get Facundo on Bossbach or Ford to create a third ranked matchup, but BCJG will likely try to avoid those matches to pick up two wins of their own. This could easily be a 7-7 match split with the dual coming down to bonus points. Either way, this will be an exciting dual with an opportunity to see it again in a month
Prediction: Freeland +3
Outlook: Another dual we will see at team districts this year. Greenville is a returning state semifinalist and currently ranked 6th, but unranked Cedar Springs may create a matchup problem for the Yellow Jackets. At first glance, CS would be favored at 6 weights (106, 126, 144, 150, 157, and 190) with higher ranked wrestlers. They also have the opportunity to win matches at 113, 120, 165, and 175. For Greenville to win this dual, they will likely need to win most, if not all, of the swing matches. Like Freeland/BCJG, this dual could come down to bonus points.
Prediction: Cedar Springs +1
Outlook: Grand Ledge is really starting to put their full lineup together and gain some momentum with wins over teams like D2 #6 Greenville. Lakewood has had a solid season of their own, highlighted by a win over a ranked Adrian Madison team. There are a handful of potential ranked matches in this dual, with Harmer/Duprest at 106, Boucher/Abdo at 132, and Simon/Steinacker at 215. Simon/Steinacker has the potential to be the match of the dual, but this dual really could come down to who wins the most unranked matches.
Prediction: Grand Ledge +12
