Every year in Broome County the Village of Windsor gets just a bit bigger for a couple of days when one of the most competitive tournaments in the state takes place right after Christmas. 32-man brackets galore. Year after year the Windsor Christmas Tournament proves just how tough it is to get on their podium, and we see that most of the time those that place at this tournament will land on the NYSPHSAA state podium in February. In fact, there are often times individuals that don't place at this tournament that will find their way onto the NYSPHSAA state podium, further showcasing that this tournament is tough as nails. This year the Windsor Christmas Tournament is headlined with 60+ state ranked wrestlers (almost 5 per weight!) alongside state qualifiers and state medalists from Pennsylvania and Virginia. Full preview below, our Christmas gift to you all!

D1 vs D2 primetime matchups in the semifinals loom as well with Cole vs Palmeri and Barrientos vs Gummow.

Great weekend on tap at 131 lbs as this weight features six state ranked wrestlers and 2x Virginia state champ Jared Goodson. Taylor Beaury made the drop from 138 to 131 for this tournament, so should be interesting to see how he competes down for the first time. Also back from injury this year is Burnt Hills' Tyler Whiteley! This weight boasts five previous state medalists / champions and an additional two previous state qualifiers, one of which being our dark horse of the tournament in Austin Fesinger. Interesting matchups here are Noto vs Whiteley, Beaury vs LeChase, and Fesinger vs Haseley. Any combination of matchups from the quarterfinals on should be fun to watch.

Aside from the Ferrara vs Duncanson match that everyone wants to see, these early matchups in the R16, quarters, and semis should be a Christmas treat for all. Overall, four previous state medalists at this weight in addition to two other state qualifiers. NYWN predicting some "seed upsets" here with Stoutenburg over Spaulding and Willis over Clark should those matchups occur in the quarters. Looming just outside the top 8 seeds is our dark horse Tyson Schirmer out of Indian River. Schirmer took 4th at the South Carolina state tournament in 2023 and was injured last year, so be on the lookout for him.
1) D1 #3 Ryan Ferrara (Chenango Forks)
2) D2 #3 Jayden Duncanson (Tioga)
3) D2 #12 Andrew Spaulding (Honeoye Falls-Lima)

Great weight here as we have five state ranked individuals and then Virginia state champ Bryan Latta. Potential top six matchup here between McVige and Tansey in the semifinals if Tansey can pull a win out over Vanderpool. Vanderpool took 4th at this tournament a year ago and has a head-to-head win over D1 state qualifier Zach Schrage. Provenzano is the 7 seed despite being a two-time finalist at this tournament and placing at Eastern States last January. That being said, Gillings vs Provenzano in the quarters should be lights out. On the other side of the lower half of the bracket, Latta will have to get through a very tough Timmy Boyce at his hometown tournament. Our dark horse comes out of Section II - Chase Matter from Saratoga Springs - he finished 3rd at D1 Section II's a year ago. NYWN has Provenzano running the gauntlet and making the finals before falling to a tough McVige in the finals.
1) D2 #2 Jacob McVige (Honeoye Falls-Lima)
2) D2 #3 Aidan Gillings (Newfane)
3) Bryan Latta (Poquoson, VA)
4) D2 #6 Leo Tansey (Collegiate School)
5) Riley Vanderpool (Towanda, PA)
6) D2 #8 (138) Tim Boyce (Windsor)
7) D1 #5 Phillip Provenzano (Fairport)

This weight is headlined by Virginia state champ Reed Both, 3x state medalist Patrick Grimsey, and 2x state medalist Ayden Buttery. Outside of those three we have four other state qualifiers (Schrage, Ackley, Baer, Nguyen). Super interested to see how Cooper Robinson competes - he was a region qualifier in Pennsylvania last year and currently holds an 11-1 record. Looking later into the tournament would love to see Schrage vs Ackley and any combination of the top 4 seeds. Our dark horse of the tournament is John Savin Nguyen - the #10 seed and a D2 state qualifier from a year ago.

This is a crazy deep weight and any combination of matches from the quarterfinals on should be great to watch. The 6 through 8 seeds are all returning D1 state qualifiers and are tough matchups for anyone in the weight. Early on we are looking at Winseman vs Getzin, White vs Owen, and Leonard vs Dacey. Winseman is hot off a win over Will Wood (Brockport) and has looked great to start the year. Rory White just recently beat D2 #2 Caden Inkley (Randolph) in a high scoring affair 12-10 and is also looking good. Out of Virginia we have Christian Leonard, who finished 3rd at the state tournament last year. Funny stat here is that both the #1 and #5 seed in this tournament took 5th here a year ago, and I think that speaks to the depth of the tournament. Our dark horse of the tournament is Tyler Ritter out of Chenango Forks - he is the #13 seed with a record of 13-4 and finished 4th at the D1 Section IV tournament back in March.
1) D2 #3 (152) Waylan Winseman (Honeoye Falls-Lima)
2) D1 #12 (152) Rory White (St. Francis)
3) Christian Leonard (Poquoson, VA)
4) D1 #14 (170) Lucas Mosher (Horseheads)
5) Chase Geurin (Towanda, PA)
6) D1 #5 Danny Dacey (Saratoga Springs)
7) D1 #6 Coleton Owen (Horseheads)
8) D1 #8 Quentin Getzin (Ithaca)
Dark Horse: Tyler Ritter (Chenango Forks)
NYWN Prediction: 1) Winseman 2) White 3) Dacey 4) Leonard

This weight features four state ranked individuals and one returning state medalist in Kayleb Martin, who sits atop the seedings. On the lower half of the bracket you have Maxx Fesinger and Gianni Delgado who are on a crash course to meet in the semifinals. Delgado is a returning Windsor Christmas Tournament champ and comes in as the three seed. Fesinger recently came out on top against D2 #1 Tavyn MacDonell 13-5 and in our eyes is the favorite in the tournament. Our dark horse here is Mat Boyce out of Windsor - he currently holds a 12-2 record and has looked great so far this year. NYWN predicts a Fesinger vs Martin final, with Fesinger coming out on top.
1) D2 #3 Kayleb Martin (Sackets Harbor)
2) D1 #7 Maxx Fesinger (West Genesee)
3) D1 #8 Gianni Delgado (Saratoga Springs)
4) Edniel Melendez-Aristud (Indian River)
5) D1 #9 Jaxson Burchard (Horseheads)
6) Clayton Smith (Corning)
Dark Horse: Mat Boyce (Windsor)
NYWN Prediction: 1) Fesinger 2) Martin 3) Delgado 4) Burchard

This weight features one state ranked wrestler in Hunter Lavigne and he is also our favorite to win this weight this weekend. Outside of Lavigne, this weight is generally wide open with four other individuals holding one loss records (Earley, Conley, Kiehn, Fuller) while Owen Englert out of HFL is battle tested with 22 matches to start the year. Conley is a returning state qualifier out of Virginia, and it'll be interesting to see how the Virginia folk stack up this weekend. Our dark horse is Raul Colon out of West Geneseee, he holds an 8-3 record to start the year!
1) D1 #8 Hunter Lavigne (Horseheads)
2) Mason Early (Amsterdam)
3) Owen Englert (Honeoye Falls-Lima)
4) Austin Conley (Poquoson, VA)
Dark Horse: Raul Colon (West Genesee)

This weight features two returning state medalists in Zach Caldwell and Sawyer Robinson - Robinson having placed 7th at the PIAA state tournament a year ago. Caldwell is still the favorite here as he placed 6th at NHSCA's and also garnered Fargo All-American honors this summer. Outside of the top 2 we have Matthias Welles who placed 6th last year, and looks like he is finally down to 215 for the remainder of the year. Elijah Apps and Omar Almlaiti out of West Genesee are both solid competitors this weekend, and our dark horse is Kenyon Davidson out of Johnson City he hold an 8-1 record and took 3rd at D1 Section's last year.
1) D1 #2 Zach Caldwell (St. Francis)
2) Sawyer Robinson (Towanda, PA)
3) D2 #5 (285) Matthias Welles (Waverly)
4) Elijah Apps (West Genesee)
Dark Horse: Kenyon Davidson (Johnson City)
NYWN Prediction: 1) Caldwell 2) Robinson 3) Davidson 4) Welles

Very interesting weight this weekend as we see how Troy Beeman rebounds from his loss to Ryan Fleischmann a couple weeks ago. In our eyes he is still the favorite to win the tournament despite his stumble, and we see him getting back on track this weekend. Love Gabe Soundaraj as a dark horse that really isn't a dark horse, and want to see a Waters vs Beeman matchup in any way possible. Mason Highly is a 2x PIAA state qualifier and is a tough out-of-state matchup for all this weekend. Tate McCauley is our dark horse for the tournament - although starting off the year 5-3 he has faced some good competition and placed 4th at the Section IV tournament last year.
1) D2 #1 Troy Beeman (Waverly)
2) D2 #4 Landon Andrade (Sherburne Earlville)
3) Mason Higley (Towanda, PA)
4) D1 #6 Blaze Waters (Fairport)
5) D2 #8 Gabe Soundaraj (Windsor)
6) D1 #14 Seamus Carroll (Horseheads)
Dark Horse: Tate McCauley (Tioga)
NYWN Prediction: 1) Beeman 2) Higley 3) Waters 4) Soundaraj
