PJ Duke, Sr. (Minisink Valley - IX)
The face of New York wrestling over the course of the last 6 years certainly needs no introduction. Duke capped off his senior year with a record of 45-0 and won every single match by either tech fall or pin as he ran circles around everyone for his 4th state title. He finishes his high school career ranked as the #1 pound-for-pound high school wrestler in the country by MatScouts, and rightfully so. PJ wrestled in the prestigious Bill Farrell tournament in the fall where he beat former NCAA Division I All-Americans in Will Lewan, Bryce Andonian, and Jarrett Jacques (and of course, won the tournament). Other credentials over the course of his career include making the finals at Super 32 four times (and winning three titles). He was a 2024 US Open 20U Freestyle Champion, 2024 NHSCA Champion, 2023 Walsh Ironman Champion, and 2022 Fargo Freestyle Champion. Duke will take his talents to State College and wrestle at Penn State where they have won 11 team titles since 2011.
FIRST TEAM
101 Jon Tutku, 8th. (Massapequa - VIII)
Prior to competing in the NYSPHSAA season, Jon Tutku was relatively unknown despite having major success on the junior high national circuit. Tutku started the year off by placing 4th in the Super 32 Middle School division and never looked back. He amassed a record of 50-1 as just an 8th grader, and was undefeated in matches that were wrestled at 101 lbs. At the state tournament, Jonny ran the gauntlet including victories over #3 seed (and Eastern States Champion) Xavier Seabury, #2 seed Trevor Patrovich, and #1 seed Tanner Catrabone. Tutku's quest for five state titles has begun.
108 Will Soto, Fr. (Newburgh - IX)
Will Soto started off the preseason at Super 32 with a record of 5-2 and fell two matches shy from the podium. At the 2025 state tournament, he outscored his opponents 44-9, surrendering only a single takedown en route to his second New York state title. He capped off his sophomore campaign unbeaten with a record of 48-0. Soto recorded only three major decisions on the year (two of them being at the state tournament) while the rest of his victories were either tech falls or pins. One word to describe Soto: dominating. Going into the off-season, Soto is currently ranked 13th in the country at 106 lbs by MatScouts.
116 Dunia Sibomana, Jr. (Long Beach - VIII)
What a trip around the sun for Dunia Sibomana. After finishing a state runner-up in 2024, Sibomana went on to win Fargo in the Junior Freestyle division at 113 lbs. He then kept the ball rolling with a 6th place finish at Super 32. During the 2024-25 high school wrestling season Sibomana dominated across the northeast where he took 5th at the Beast of the East, avenged his 2024 state finals loss to Cooper Merli in the Eastern States finals, and then teched or pinned his way through the state tournament. The UNC commit is now a 2x New York state champ and 4x state medalist (1-3-2-1), and is currently ranked 10th in the country at 113 lbs by MatScouts.
124 Evin Gursoy, Sr. (Midwood - P)
Hailing out of the PSAL, senior Evin Gursoy capped off his career as a 4x state medalist and 2x state champ (3-2-1-1). Gursoy won the Eastern States Classic for the second consecutive year in a row, and did not surrender a single point at the state tournament while outscoring the competition 29-0. In the final two years of his prep career, he was unblemished while compiling a record of 62-0. Other accomplishments through his prep career include two NHSCA podium finishes (5th, 3rd) and he was also the 2024 Journeymen Fall Classic champ. Gursoy will stay in New York City and compete in the Ivy League at Columbia University under the guidance of Donny Pritzlaff, Sebastian Rivera, and Jeff Buxton.
131 Luke Satriano, Sr. (Valley Central - IX)
Satriano capped off his senior year with a third consecutive state title and four podium finishes (4-1-1-1). At the state tournament, Satriano outscored his opponents 57-2 with the only points he gave up being escapes. Throughout the year Satriano wrestled the toughest competition while traveling throughout the northeast and competing at the Walsh Jesuit Ironman, Beast of the East, and Powerade tournaments earning podium finishes at BoE (7th) and Powerade (5th). At the Powerade tournament, Satriano beat New Jersey state champ Ryan DeGeorge, who at the time was ranked top 15 by most outlets. He also scored a win over Tyler Conroy (Malvern Prep) who placed at Ironman, BoE, and Powerade. Satriano caps off his career with three Eastern State podium finishes (4th, 3rd, 1st) and took 4th at NHSCA's in 2023. Satriano is ranked 23rd in the country, and headed to West Virginia to continue wrestling, where he will join a handful of New York natives.
138 Gavin Mangano, So. (Shoreham-Wading River - XI)
Mangano began his season with a stellar performance at Super 32 ultimately finishing 6th with wins over top-10 nationally ranked foes in Adrian DeJesus (NJ) and Billy Townson (CA). Gavin kept it rolling during the high school season, ultimately finishing his season unblemished with a record of 50-0 and his second consecutive state title. Of those 50 matches, only 3 came by less of a magnitude than a tech or a pin, and those were in the Eastern States semifinals, Eastern States finals, and the NYS tournament finals (major, decision, decision). Mangano has other notable accomplishments, including winning NHSCA's in 2024 alongside finishing 3rd at Fargo in the 16U freestyle division. Mangano suffered a substantial injury in the state finals, so expect him to be on the mend this summer. Going into the off-season, Mangano is ranked 11th in the country by MatScouts.
145 Mason Ketcham, Sr. (Washingtonville - IX)
Ketcham finished his senior campaign off with a state title after falling short as a state runner-up a year ago. Ketcham finished with a record of 42-1, with his only blemish coming to out of state foe Wyatt Fry (Wyoming Seminary). He will end his career as a 2x state medalist (2nd, 1st), 2x Eastern States Medalist (3rd, 2nd), and NHSCA All-American honors. Ketcham will head north to Buffalo where he will continue his wrestling career under rising coaching star Donnie Vinson.
152 Griffin LaPlante, Jr. (St. Francis - C)
The Red Raider capped off his junior campaign with his first state title after falling short a year ago, now stepping on the podium three times at the state tournament (5-X-2-1). LaPlante was active out of state this year where he competed and medaled at both the Powerade (6th) and Escape the Rock (8th) tournaments. His only in-state loss this year was up a weight class to Jason Kwaak at Eastern States in what was an instant classic match between nationally ranked opponents. As we head into the offseason, LaPlante has placed three times at NHSCA grade level nationals (8-4-1), and also finished 8th at Super 32 in 2021. LaPlante is currently ranked 25th in the country by MatScouts.
160 Jason Kwaak, Sr. (Brentwood - XI)
After three previous state tournament appearances in loaded brackets, Jason Kwaak ends his career on top as a New York State Champion and four time state medalist (8-3-X-4-1). Throughout his senior year he proved he was the top dog with his Eastern States Classic championship where he beat nationally ranked foe Griffin LaPlante 10-5 in the finals. Kwaak went on to tech or pin his way through the Section XI tournament before finishing his senior year with a 43-0 record, and on top of the podium. Kwaak finishes his prep career as a 3x Eastern States placer (2-2-1), NHSCA All-American ('24 3rd), and Fargo Freestyle All-American (6th). Kwaak is currently ranked 19th at 157 lbs by FloWrestling, and his next stop is NC State!
170 Kayleb Martin, Sr. (Sackets Harbor - III)
Martin capped off his senior year with a Division II state title and won in convincing fashion in the finals over 3x state medalist and 2x state finalist Tavyn MacDonnell by a score of 13-2. Martin finishes his senior year with a record of 34-3, and also finishes his career as a 3x state qualifier and 2x state medalist (Q-X-7-1). In the final two years of his prep career, he culminated a record of 61-13. Outside of the NYSPHSAA season, Martin was also a 2x NYS Freestyle medalist (4th, 3rd).
190 Devin Downes, Jr. (Plainedge - VIII)
After a sophomore breakout season and a Division I state title, Downes finished his junior campaign going back-to-back and finishing his junior season with another state title, this time in Division II. Downes amassed a record of 46-4, with his only in-state loss being to Tavio Hoose, who he later beat at Eastern States. Downes travelled to the Beast of the East, finishing 5th at the prestigious tournament with banner wins over Matt Connolly (Malvern Prep) and James Hopkins (Whitehall). In 2024, Downes placed 4th at NHSCA nationals. He is ranked 11th in the country by FloWrestling (22nd by MatScouts) and is already committed to wrestle in the Big 10 for Maryland.
215 Alex Berisha, Sr. (Fox Lane - I)
After finishing as a state runner-up a year ago, Berisha capped off his senior atop the podium in MVP Arena to end his high school prep career. Berisha cumulated a record of 42-2 with his only losses coming out of state at Beast of the East, and outscored his competition 42-10 at the state tournament without giving up a single takedown. Berisha is a 2x NHSCA All-American having finished 8th and 3rd in his prep career, while also finishing as a 3x Eastern States medalist (7-5-1). Currently uncommitted, Berisha's services in college are still up for grabs should he decide to wrestle at the collegiate level.
285 Kamdyn Dorchester, Sr. (Carthage - III)
Big man Kam Dorchester capped off a stellar senior year atop the podium while wrestling the best in-state competition all year. At the state tournament, Dorchester outscored his competition 22-3 with the only points given up being escapes and ended his season with a 41-1 record. As he closes the book on a stellar high school career, Dorchester finishes as a 2x state medalist (5th, 1st), 2x New York freestyle medalist (3rd, 1st), and 2x New York greco medalist (3rd, 1st).
