Day 1 of the 2025 NCAA Championships is in the book, and there are a handful of Michigan Grapplers moving onto day 2. Leading the way are the 7 quarterfinalists in Braeden Davis, Caleb Fish, Cameron Amine, Beau Mantanona, Josh Barr, Jacob Cardenas, and Josh Heindselman. Davis, Fish, Mantanona, Barr, and Heindselman are all looking for their first All American honors, while Cam Amine is one match away from his fourth podium finish, and Cardenas is a match away from his first top-8 finish as a Wolverine (he was a 2x All American for Cornell previously).
In potentially the match of the round, Caleb Fish upset #5 Brandon Cannon (Ohio State) with a massive throw in the 3rd period. Fish will now see #20 Chumbley (Northwestern) for a spot in the semis and a guaranteed top-6 finish.
Michigan is holding a spot in the top-10 after Day 1, currently tied for 7th with 16.5 points. The Wolverines will have 3 quarterfinalists and two more alive in the wrestlebacks. CMU is just outside the top-25 with a chance to climb tomorrow with Sean Spidle and Johnny Lovett on the backside.
