Breakdown: Third-straight year of seeing Lowell vs Brother Rice in the quarterfinals. The Arrows enter with five number-one ranked wrestlers; Rice comes in with a pair of top-two ranked individuals. So there is plenty of talent in this one. Lowell should be safe to advance once again. As far as a prediction, in years past they've used the quarters as a time to sit a number of their starters because of their depth, which makes it difficult. Lowell by 36.
Breakdown: Without really looking into it at all, this probably is the first time ever, or least in many years, where two undefeated teams are wrestling in the quarters. It speaks to how evenly balanced D2 is this year and how much parity we've seen throughout the year. Both Mason and Jefferson qualified eight for the state tournament. 126-165 has a bunch of potential ranked matchups so it's likely whoever holds serve there will win. Mason by 12.
Breakdown: Another really good matchup between quality teams who are both making quarterfinal appearances for the first time in over a decade (Three Rivers 2001, Greenville 2013). Three Rivers is unbeaten and turned in a great weekend at the regionals with nine state qualifers. Greenville rebounded from a couple early-season losses and seem to have all of their pieces in place to make a run. This is probably the best dual of the D2 session and could see either team advancing to the semis. Hard to say where each will weigh in at, but there are probably 5-6 swing matches no matter how it shakes out. Not bold enough to pick the upset for the Jackets, but it's definitely in play. Three Rivers by 3.
Breakdown: Interesting dual between #2 Freeland and #7 Lake Fenton, who advanced seven and six to the state tournament of the same region, respectively. Probably most intriguing is what Freeland will do with their lineup as they have shifted their middle weights down a couple times this year. Lake Fenton has rolled out the same squad largely all year, so there won't be a ton of bumping on their end most likely. Freeland is the pick to win, but it could definitely get exciting. Not your typical 2 vs 7 matchup. Freeland by 12.
